Mechanical and Thermal Measurements Group

Research activity

Dynamic characterization of rubber and rubber-to-metal devices

Since 1997 the Mechanical and Thermal Measurements Group is involved in a research activity concerning the experimental as well as numerical characterization of the dynamics of elastomeric materials (rubber) and rubber-to-metal devices, specifically in the automotive field.

The activity is conducted through a collaborative partnership with other research units within the Engineering school of the Università degli Studi di Brescia; specifically with the Machine Design Group, which is active in the Mechanical Engineering Department, and with the Materials Science Group, which is active in the Physics and Chemistry for Engineering and Materials Department.

Partnerships concern also industries, which participate or have participated to the progrm, offering support and funding (Centro Ricerche FIAT - Orbassano (I), CFGomma - Passirano (I)).

The activity concerns different aspects of the analysis of the mechanical behaviour of elastomers and of components made up of these materials. Specifically:

- experimental characterization of the dynamics of materials and components (poster [296kb]);
- searching of innovative models for the description of the dyanmics of components;
- implememtation of models within automatic calculus codes for simulation (poster [251kb]).

Several papers have been published within this thematic research area.
