Industrial Diagnostics

the case of marble slabs production

The group is actively involved in developing novel measurements methods for industrial diagnostics, especially in vibration and acceleration fields and with a particular focus on affordable and reliable non-destructive methods.

The group know-how on industrial diagnostic via accelerometric measurements has been recently consolidated in a project on marble slabs production: in collaboration with local industries and extractor a non destructive tecnique for continuous bodies diagnosis was developed to assess the marble block quality BEFORE cutting it into slabs, therefore preventing any non conformity in the final product as well as any damage to the cutting system due to internal fractures in a marble block.

The method is fast and reliable, and, more interesting, is simple to perform directly on site with a standard hammer and a proper set of accelerometers. Actually the group is working on widening the statistical base of test sample to assess the method reliability, and on the development of an automated system for the operator to use directly in production phases.
